A Phlebotomy Technician also called a Phlebotomist. Phlebotomy technicians are an integral member of the health care team. The primary function of the Phlebotomy technician is to collect blood samples and to facilitate it getting to the laboratory for processing. A Phlebotomy Technician must be able to communicate effectively and work well under pressure. This is why we offer our students a well-rounded education for phlebotomy certification in Arizona.

 

Program Structure

  • Class & Lab: 80 Hours
  • Externship: 160 Hours (minimum of 100 unaided venipunctures)

Skills and Practices Learned

The program covers extensive instruction including but not limited to:

  • Venipuncture (blood drawing)
  • Specimen Collection
  • Record keeping
  • Vital signs

Externship

After successful completion of the classroom and laboratory training, students will partake in a clinical externship in order to develop their skills and get a real world experience. Externships will take place at hospitals and independent laboratories with a CLIA regulated laboratories.
Providence Training Institute provides the externship sites but students must be flexible as regards externship schedule. This could vary according to the established schedule and needs of your assigned location.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Healthcare CPR Card
  • TB test or Chest X-ray within 9 months
  • Hepatitis B vaccination x 2
  • Proof of MMR vaccination
  • Drug Test (Random and Externship site request)
  • Background Check
  • State issued identification
